Regularly checking your oil level is a great habit to develop and helps keep your engine functioning properly. If you find it running a bit low, don’t worry: topping off your engine oil is a very simple process, one that anyone can do with the right know-how and tools.
Here’s how you can top up your engine oil:
- Purchase the engine oil recommended by your owner’s manual
- Park your car on a flat surface andpop the hood
- Find the oil cap—usually marked by a dripping oil can or the word “OIL”—and remove it
- Use a funnel to slowly add the oil
- Check the new oil level with the dipstick and make sure you’ve added enough
- Replace the oil cap and make sure it is screwed down tightly
- Check that you haven’t left anything on the engine and close the hood
Now you’ve successfully topped off your oil!
