How do I temporarily add someone to my car insurance?
My cousin will be visiting for the summer. They will be using my car while here. Can I temporarily add them to my insurance?

You do have the ability to add and remove someone from your
car insurance
. While you can’t specify a particular date that you would want them covered for, you can add your cousin and then remove them once they are no longer using your vehicle.To add your cousin to your car insurance policy, call your car insurance company or use your online account or mobile app. You will need some of your cousin’s personal information. This includes their date of birth, full name, and driver’s license number.
Once you add your cousin, the insurance company will rerate your policy. Depending on your cousin’s driving record, your rate may increase or decrease. You can request a quote from your car insurance company first before adding your cousin.
If your rate does increase considerably, you could see if your cousin would get a
non-owner
policy. This would give them coverage when they are driving a vehicle they don’t own.While choosing to not add your cousin to your policy is an option, it isn’t recommended. Since your cousin will be regularly using your vehicle, your car insurance could deny coverage if they’re in an accident in your car.
