How do I switch to an electric car insurance policy?

I recently bought a Subaru Solterra, which is an electric car. I’ve canceled my previous car’s insurance policy so I can sell it, but now I need to make some adjustments. I was wondering how I could switch to an electric car policy; is it easy, complicated, or am I overthinking it?

To switch your insurance to an electric car policy and get rid of your old car’s policy, you’ll need to cancel your previous car’s coverage, unless you plan to continue driving it. This can be accomplished with help from
Jerry
, or by calling or going online to your insurance provider’s website to start working through canceling your old car’s policy. While it can be a bit of a time suck to do it yourself, it is possible.
Switching your insurance policy to cover an electric car is pretty simple. In fact, it’s just as easy as switching from a gas-powered car to another car. The power source of the vehicle has little effect on the process, other than raising your rates since electric cars are traditionally more expensive to insure. They have fewer parts, but more expensive parts, meaning that if something breaks, your insurance provider is likely to have to pay more to get it fixed. This will probably translate into a higher monthly premium for you.
The process is straightforward–and unless you’re leasing the vehicle, which will almost always require a more extensive insurance policy, you can simply have the old car’s policy terminated and then work with
Jerry
or your insurance provider to have a new one made for your Subaru Solterra.
