How do I swap a car lease?

I'm in the middle of a car lease, but I decided I want to purchase a car instead (and not the one I’m currently leasing). The dealership told me I might be able to do a car lease swap. What does this mean and how do I do it?

A
lease swap
is a great tool for getting out of a lease you don’t want anymore. Follow these steps to complete a lease swap without any major complications:
  • Make sure your lessor allows a lease swap (which sounds plausible, as the dealership suggested it to you)
  • Find a suitable candidate to swap with: they should have good income and the same or better credit than you
  • Have your financing company or the dealership run the other person’s credit
  • Complete the transfer, including any paperwork for transferring the title and registration
