How do I submit a third-party insurance claim?

I was in an accident and the other driver is at fault. My friend said I need to submit a third-party insurance claim. How do I do that?

Though a third-party claim sounds confusing, it’s just a technical term insurance companies use. Simply put, it’s when you need to submit a claim to the at-fault driver’s insurance rather than your own insurance company.
Moreover, a third-party claim is titled as such because you’re a third party to the other driver and their car insurance company. Since the other driver is at fault, you typically would submit a claim to their insurance to cover your damage or injuries.
Depending on the time frame, the coverage you have on your policy, and the damage that needs to be repaired, you may have to submit a claim to your insurance first. Some insurance companies recommend submitting a claim for medical payments coverage or collision insurance to your insurance first to get your damage or injuries covered.
From there, your insurance would seek reimbursement from the other insurance company. They would likely try to recover your collision deductible as well.
To submit a claim, get in touch with your insurance company. Inform them of any accidents as they can help negotiate with the other insurance company. They can also give you more information about how to proceed forward with a claim.
Since insurance rate increases are common after an accident or claim submission, consider shopping around. Rates vary and you could find a better premium with another company.
