If you need to file a claim with someone else’s insurance after an accident, contact your
car insurance company
. This is known as a third-party claim.You can inform them of the accident along with any damage or injuries you have. Let them know you will be filing a claim with the other driver’s insurance.
Once aware, your car insurance company may contact the other driver’s insurance and state negotiations. Confirm with your insurance if they will work with the other insurance or if you should call them directly.
If you need to call the other driver’s insurance, provide them with all the accident details, your damage and/or injuries, and your contact information. You’ll also need to give them the other driver’s information.
Once the insurance company has the information they need, they file a claim and work to assess the damage. You may hear from the claims adjuster if they need any additional information.
