How do I store a car in Florida?

I live in Florida, but I got a one-year job contract in New York City. I won’t need my car in the Big Apple, so I’m going to keep it at my house in Tampa. I’ve never stored a car before, so I’m wondering, how do I store a car in Florida?

By doing some
basic maintenance
and finding a dry storage space away from the sun, you can ensure that your car is in tip-top shape when you return.
Before you set off for the Empire State, follow these steps to properly store your car in
Florida
:
  • Change the oil
  • Fill the fuel tank to lessen the chance of moisture entering the gas tank
  • Wash and wax your car to preserve the exterior and minimize any incidence of corrosion
  • Fill the tires to the proper PSI
  • Disconnect the battery
  • Find a storage spot, preferably a climate-controlled garage
  • Use a dehumidifier if necessary to minimize the growth of mold
  • Try to find a friend or family member to drive your car at least once a week or so to keep the vehicle in working order
By following these steps, you can make sure that your car remains in good condition, even if you’re away for a year or more.
