How do I sell my car at an auction?

I’ve heard that you can sell your car at an auction, but I'm not sure how. What do I need to do?

First, you’ll need to figure out what kind of auction would be best suited for your car. Here are some common types of car auctions:
  • Collector car auctions are for well-maintained classic cars, luxury vehicles, or cars with special historical significance.
  • Public auctions typically feature totaled cars, damaged cars, cars from salvage yards, or cars that have engine problems.
  • Online auctions can accommodate a wide variety of cars.
Do your research to find the best auction house for your car. Each auction house or site will have different eligibility requirements and rules, but some will require you to:
  • Pay an entry fee
  • Obtain a dealer’s license
  • Know the
    value of your car
so you can set a reasonable minimum price
  • Pay to tow your car to and from the auction if it doesn’t run
  • Attend the auction in case there are any questions or issues
  • Bring the car title to the auction
