How do I sell a car in SC?
I’m from South Carolina. I’m looking to sell my old Land Rover and buy a new Jeep, but I’ve never sold a car before. What’s the best way to sell a car in SC?

“Selling a car in South Carolina is actually a relatively simple process. Once you find an interested buyer and exchange payment, just sign the title over to them.
On the back of the title, include the following information:
- Odometer reading at the time of sale
- Purchase date
- Selling price
After your car is sold, you’ll need to notify the South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles and complete a Notice of Vehicle Sold (SCDMV Form 416), which can be found on their website. Then, mail it to the following address:

If the buyer is making payments on the vehicle, they will need to complete section F of the Title Application (SCDMV Form 400). You will be considered the lienholder for that vehicle and retain possession of the title until the buyer has paid in full. At that point, they will have a clean title.

cancel your insurance
