How do I sell a car in Georgia?

I moved to Atlanta recently for a job. Now that I live in the city, I want to sell my current car to get something with better fuel economy. What steps do I need to take to sell a car in Georgia?

Congratulations on your new job and new home! Since you want to get a new car,
selling your old car
is straightforward. All you need to do is transfer the title ownership, cancel your registration, switch your insurance, and complete a bill of sale.
Once you’ve found a willing buyer, follow these steps to complete the sale without leaving anything out:
  • Transfer ownership by filling out the back of the title. It will require your signature and the signature of the buyer.
  • Cancel your registration using Georgia’s DRIVES e-Services or by filling out Form MV-18J - Application of Voluntary Registration Cancellation.
  • Complete a Bill of Sale by hand or by using Form T-7 - Bill of Sale.
  • Cancel your insurance or switch it to your new vehicle.
Since you’re getting a new car, you should shop around for car insurance to get the best rate possible. That’s when the Jerry app can help.
