How do I reset the brake light on my BMW X1?
The last time I was at the mechanic, they told me I’d have to come back in a month or less to have my brakes replaced. Rather than come back so soon, I asked them to change them before it was necessary. The brakes work great, but the brake light came on this morning. The mechanic said not to worry and just reset the light, but how can I reset the brake light on my BMW X1?

sooner than necessary! Fortunately, resetting the brake light is as easy as pushing a few buttons and shouldn’t take you more than a few minutes.To reset the brake on your BMW X1, you need to:
- Turn the ignition on but do not start the engine.
- Hold down the odometer or trip reset button until the service menu appears. The button is typically on the left side of the instrument cluster, and the service menu should appear after holding the button for five to ten seconds.
- Use the reset button or, depending on the model, the controls on the turn signal lever to scroll through the settings until you find the brake warnings.
- Hold the reset button or BC button on the end of the turn signal lever until you see a prompt asking you if you’d like to reset the warning.
- Press the reset or BC button until the display shows it is resetting and confirm reset if prompted.
