How do I reset the airbag light in a Honda Civic?

My SRS airbag light came on in my Honda Civic. The airbags have never deployed, so I’m not sure why it’s on. How can I reset it?

Once you’re certain the airbag light isn’t on due to an issue with your SRS, you can reset a
Honda Civic’s
airbag light by following these steps:
  1. Open the fuse box panel under the dash to locate the Memory Erase Signal (MES) connector
  2. Twist a large paperclip or sturdy wire into a U shape
  3. Connect the two pins on the MES connector with the wire ends
  4. Turn on your Civic—the airbag light should come on for six seconds before turning off
  5. Disconnect the paperclip and the airbag light will come back on
  6. Reconnect the paperclip—the airbag light should come on again for six seconds, then turn off
  7. Disconnect the paperclip and the light should blink twice, then stay off
  8. Turn off the ignition and wait for 10 seconds
  9. Turn the car on again
  10. The airbag light should come on for a moment, then turn off completely
If the light remains on after completing these steps, it’s likely an indication that there is an issue with your supplemental restraint system. This includes:
  • Airbags
  • Seat belt sensors
  • Seat belt pretensioners
You should take your
Honda
to a mechanic or a dealer to have your SRS checked out. Once all
car repairs
are completed, the mechanic or dealer can reset the airbag light for you.
