Oil changes are an important part of
basic maintenance
on your Honda Fit, so kudos on that! What happened is that your mechanic forgot to reset the oil life light, but it’s easy to fix.
To reset a Honda Fit oil light, follow these steps:
  • Put the key in the ignition and turn it to the run position. Essentially, turn your car on without turning your engine on.
  • Use the trip button on the instrument cluster to select oil life.
  • Press the trip button for 10 seconds. You should see the oil life start to flash.
  • Release the trip button and then push it in again for five seconds, or until the oil life reads 100%.
Note that the oil life light is different from the oil pressure light that’s denoted by an oil can with a drip coming out of it. If this light is on, your oil pressure is low, your oil is leaking, or you have a significant problem with oil circulating in your engine. In this case, take your car to a mechanic immediately.
