How do I report an accident to my car insurance company?

I was in a small fender bender last week, but the damage looked minimal so I didn't file a claim. I took my car to an auto body shop just to check on the damage and they quoted me $1,500 for repairs, which I can't pay out of pocket. I want to report this to my insurance company, but I don't really know how. What's the best way to file a claim?

“I’m sorry to hear about the fender bender, and sorry that the damage was so pricey! I am happy to report that
car insurance
companies have made accident reporting easier than ever—most allow you to report an accident online via a website or mobile app, while others may require a phone call.
If the other driver is at fault, you may file a
third-party claim
with the other person’s insurance company. However, you should still report the accident to your car insurance company so that they are aware and can help with the claims process.
Providing an accompanying police report is also a smart move for the sake of proof and payout, and may dispel some concerns about fraud.
Insurance rates often go up after an accident, so it’s a good idea to shop around and ensure you’re getting the best rate. If you’d like help sifting through multiple companies, try using the
Jerry
app. Jerry gathers quotes from multiple providers instantly, so that all you have to do is choose the policy that works best for you. If you do find a plan you like, we’ll even help you with all the paperwork needed to switch.
Best of luck and I hope that reporting goes smoothly!”
