How do I replace the alternator on a 2005 Chevy Equinox?
My alternator just bit the dust, but I don’t want to pay for the added cost of taking it to a mechanic. Can you tell me how to replace the alternator on a 2005 Chevy Equinox?

- Open the hoodand remove the engine cover, air box, air tube, and battery.
- Disconnect the wires that connect to the EGR valve and tube, the map sensor, and the idle hose. You’ll need to have these unplugged so you can access the alternator.
- Unbolt the tension harness connected to the alternator
- Your alternator is held down by three bolts: one on each side and one in the back, unbolt all three of these bolts.
- Take out the old alternator and replace it with your new one.
- Re-bolt the three bolts you took out earlier to hold your new alternator in place
- Reconnect everything you disconnected earlier, and reinstall the battery
