How do I rent a car without insurance?

I don't own a car and I don't have car insurance. I do have a license, though, and my friends and I are planning a road trip where I do want to drive. Is there any way I can still rent a car? And if so, how?

To rent a car without your own personal insurance policy, you’ll need to purchase
rental car insurance
from the car rental agency.
Unfortunately, rental car insurance can be pricey. Here’s a breakdown of average costs for different types of rental car coverage:
  • Collision damage waiver (CDW): $10–$30 per day
  • Rental car liability coverage: $10–$16 per day
  • Personal accident insurance: $3–$9 per day
  • Personal effects coverage: $1–$6 per day
If you rent cars frequently, you may want to consider purchasing
non-owner car insurance
to save money. These policies are usually cheaper than traditional car insurance rates by 15% and are much cheaper than insurance from the rental company.
