Good question! Most insurance policies are set to renew automatically with little or nothing needed on your end.
About a month before your
car insurance
expires, you should receive a letter in the mail or via email containing your renewal documentation. It should include new insurance cards, information about rate changes, and a new declarations page.
Unless you make changes by calling your insurer or using their online portal, your policy will continue unchanged. Most policies last six months to a year, and after that point, they are up for renewal, meaning you can either continue coverage with your current provider or shop around for another insurance company.
If you decide to cancel your policy and switch to another company, the
Jerry
app can help. Jerry collects customized quotes from top providers in minutes.
Finally, if you find a new policy, make sure your
coverage doesn’t lapse
! Starting your new policy before or on the date your old policy expires will prevent a higher premium in the future.
