How do I remove tree sap from my car windshield?
What’s the easiest way to get tree sap off your car? Here I thought it was a smart idea to park my car under a large tree to shade it from the sun, but then it just ended up with sap all over it.

“Oof! Removing tree sap from a windshield is tough—but we’re here to make it easier on you!
Follow these steps and you’ll be sap-free in no time:
- Step 1: Clean the area with glass cleaner—anything you usually use to wash your mirrors or windows. Wait for it to dry completely.
- Step 2: Add a few drops of rubbing alcohol to a clean, dry cloth. Lay it over the tree sap to loosen it up. (Don’t worry—rubbing alcohol is safe on glass!)
- Step 3: Using the moist cloth, rub the sappy area in a circular motion until most of the sap is gone. Repeat steps two and three if needed.
- Step 4: Use the glass-cleaning agent to get rid of any remaining smudges. It’s best to use a clean cloth while doing so.
There is an easier (more risky) way of removing tree sap off your windshield. Experienced victims of tree sap will opt for using a razor blade or a knife to scrape away the sap. But this method is not advisable for first-timers since you risk damaging your windshield.
In the event the tree sap ends up damaging your car, you might want to check if your insurance covers that. You can read through your policy or call your provider to find out.
