How do I remove tint from my car windows?

I've had my back windows tinted for a while, but I just found out that it’s illegal in my state. I'd like to get rid of it before I get in trouble. How do you remove window tint from cars?

All in all, the easiest way to remove window tint is with a steamer or a heat gun.
The process for removing tint with either tool is practically identical. Simply follow these steps:
  • Roll down your window so that the top edge of the tint is visible.
  • Use the steamer or heater to warm the window. If you’re using a steamer, you should warm the entire window and peel off the tint all at once. With a heater, you should heat a small section at a time and peel it back slowly—starting from the top.
  • Continue heating and peeling back the tint until it’s all gone!
  • Clean the glue residue off your windows using a microfiber towel and a product like Goo Gone.
Your not-so-secret third option is to cut out the work and
take your car to a professional
. Plenty of shops offer tint removal services for somewhere between $25 and $50 per window. Considering the work involved, it may be worth the cost.
