How do I remove scratches in my car windshield?
My windshield got scratched by an automatic car wash recently. I’d like to make the glass smooth again, so can you tell me how to remove scratches in my car windshield?

I’m sorry that happened! Automatic car washes can be pretty abrasive. There is a store-bought option or an at-home option you can use to remove the scratches.
- Acrylic scratch remover: It works to remove scratches by chemically reacting with the glass to fill them in. You can pick it up at most auto part stores. To use this:
- Apply a small amount to a clean, soft cloth.
- Rub it over the scratched area for about 60 seconds.
- Let the compound sit for about 30 minutes on the damaged area.
- Clean the area with another clean, soft cloth to avoid further scratching.
- Non-gel toothpaste: For scratches that aren’t too deep, toothpaste acts as a gritty grinding paste to level the area. To use this method:
- Wash and dry the area with a soft, clean rag.
- Apply toothpaste to the cloth and rub it in a circular pattern for about 30 seconds.
- Wipe the residual paste away with another damp cloth and use a clean cloth to dry the area and removestreaks.
