How do I recharge the AC on a Ford Freestyle?

I have a 2007 Ford Freestyle, but the air conditioner stopped blowing cold air. I’m almost 100% certain the AC just needs a recharge, but I’m not sure where to start. How can I put refrigerant in the AC system?

Recharging the AC on a Ford Freestyle isn’t all that difficult if you know where to find the two AC valves in the engine compartment.
The high-side connector is easy to reach and is located just in front of the windshield wiper fluid reservoir. However, the low-side connector is much more difficult to reach. It’s located behind the power steering fluid reservoir.
To reach the low-side connector:
  • Disconnect the solenoid electrical plug (junction box) and move it aside.
  • Push in the small clip of the solenoid and slide it off the bracket.
  • Tuck it away behind the power steering fluid reservoir.
  • Now you should be able to reach the low-side connector.
After you get to the low-side connector, fire up the engine. Then remove the connector caps and attach an aerosol refrigerant. Use the directions on the can to recharge the AC and you’re done!
While a
used car warranty
can protect your AC and other vital mechanical components, you still need the right insurance to drive your Freestyle around town.
