How do I put a radio code in a Honda Civic?

I recently replaced the battery on my Honda Civic. But now when I turn the car on, my radio is asking for a code. I have no idea what this could be. How can I put a radio code in a Honda Civic?

When you replace the battery on a
Honda Civic
or any other Honda, your radio resets and prompts you to enter a radio code. But before you stress, try holding the radio power button for about 10 seconds. In some cases, this will resolve the issue. If it doesn’t, you’ll have to enter a code based on your car’s model year.
To put in a radio code on a Honda Civic that’s a 2002 model or newer:
  1. Without putting the key in the ignition, simultaneously hold the 1 and 6 radio presets.
  2. Turn the key to the on position.
  3. The radio should display a 10-digit alphanumeric code.
  4. Write this code down and then input it when you start your radio again.
  5. This should resolve the issue.
To put in a radio code on a Honda Civic that’s a 2001 model or older:
  • Remove the head unit to get the serial number off the back of the radio. If you don’t feel confident, take your car to a car stereo store or the Honda dealership.
  • Using this serial number, you can find your radio code in one of three ways:
  1. Go to radio-navicode.honda.com and input the serial number, VIN, phone number, and zip code.
  2. Call Honda at 1-800-999-1009 and give them the same information to get the code.
  3. Take your car to the Honda dealership.
Even if you replaced your battery, you can’t put a price on peace of mind. By adding roadside assistance or
towing and labor coverage
on your Honda Civic, you can make sure you never get stranded. But to get the best price on additional coverage, download the
