How do I program my BMW key fob?

Is there a way for me to program my own BMW key fob? I would feel silly going to the dealership if I can do it at home, but I can’t find instructions that don’t include turning the key in the ignition.

Yes, you can program your
BMW
key fob at home! While some BMWs use keys, there are several models with push to start buttons and key fobs. To program this type of key fob, you’ll need to follow these steps:
  1. Get into your car with the doors closed and unlocked. If you have any other functional keys, don’t bring them in the car with you.
  2. On the side of your steering column, look for the key icon and place your key fob against the icon.
  3. With the key fob still pressed against the steering column, start your car. Your key fob should be programmed when you do this!
  4. When you’re done, make sure to test your key fob.
If you have any issues, try repeating this process. Should you not be able to program it after that, you may need to take a trip to the dealership.
While you’re taking some time to program your new key fob, take an extra minute to check out the
