How do I program a Honda Element key?

I bought a spare key for my Honda Element online. How do you program a car key yourself?

“Having a spare is always a good call. To program your extra key, you’ll need your current key.
Before getting started, make sure all of the car’s windows and doors are closed, as well as the tailgate. Also, keep in mind that this procedure will erase all saved key fobs, so don’t forget to reprogram your current key, as well.
Here’s what to do:
  • First, turn your current key to the ON position in the ignition—but do not start the engine.
  • Within four seconds, press the lock or unlock button on the new replacement key for one second.
  • Then, turn the ignition to the off position.
  • Repeat the process three more times.
  • Then, turn the key to the ON position and leave it there.
  • Finally, press the lock or unlock button on each key you wish to program within nine seconds.
When all keys are programmed, turn the ignition off and pull the key out in order to exit the transmitter programming mode.
