How do I play music through Bluetooth in a Chevy Malibu?

My daughter borrowed my car recently, and she was telling me she was listening to her Spotify music in my car through Bluetooth, without connecting to the Android Auto thing. How did she do that? Could you tell me how to play music through Bluetooth in my Chevy Malibu without using the cable?

It’s always surprising when our kids find these features in our cars we never knew were there. And we’re of course more than happy to help you connect your phone via
Bluetooth
and tell you how to play music through the Bluetooth in your
Chevy Malibu
!
First, a little disclaimer: This only works in 2013+ models of the Chevy Malibu. Prior to 2013, the Malibu didn’t have Bluetooth functionality (unless you upgraded the OEM stereo with an aftermarket one, anyway). That said, let’s get down to it!
  • Make sure Bluetooth is enabled on your phone
  • On the car’s infotainment screen, find and click the phone icon
  • On this new screen, find the option to “add new phone” or “add new device”. It’s shown simply as a “plus” icon for some model years
  • You’ll see a list of bluetooth devices your Chevy Malibu can connect with. Scroll through this list and find your own device, and click it
  • You’ll now see codes appearing both on your infotainment screen and on your device. Make sure these codes match and that they’re showing on both. This helps you confirm that your phone is connected to the car and vice versa
  • Check your device to see if it needs you to confirm the connection. Most smartphones will ask you to confirm for security reasons. Say yes to confirm it
Once you’re done, your Chevy Malibu will be connected to your device via Bluetooth. That means you can now jam out to your favorite tunes on Spotify or other music streaming services. Simply start up the music streaming app on your phone and hit play, and you’ll hear it in your car.
If you’re driving an older Chevy Malibu, you could always consider upgrading your car stereo. We hope all of this helps!
