How do I pick the right car insurance coverage for New Hampshire?

I just moved to New Hampshire, and people have told me that the car insurance situation is unique in the state—something about there being no minimum. I've always based my coverage off of the minimum requirements before; how do I pick the right coverage now?

“That’s a great question!
New Hampshire car insurance laws
are definitely an anomaly in the United States, since New Hampshire is the only state that doesn’t require car insurance. The best way to choose coverage without a minimum is to understand what you need.
Most experts will agree that you should still have insurance to cover you and protect your financial assets from lawsuits in case you’re at fault in an accident, which would likely be just basic
liability coverage
.
The state also requires you to have minimum liability coverage if you’re convicted of any of these driving offenses:
  • Hit and run
  • DUI (drugs or alcohol)
  • Intentionally killing or hurting someone with your car
  • Second speeding ticket
  • Second warning or ticket for another traffic violation
However, you should assess your needs to figure out if you’ll need more coverage than that. You also have the option of
comprehensive
and
collision
coverage, which will cover you for unforeseen acts of nature and accidents where you were at fault, respectively.
