How do I open the hood of a Subaru Impreza?

I’ve been noticing a wet spot on the driveway where I park my Subaru Impreza. I want to check on the oil and the antifreeze to see if either could be the cause—how do I open the hood?

Opening the hood of your Subaru Impreza is easy: just pull the hood release lever located under the dashboard on the driver’s side, then release the black safety lever under the hood cover by pushing it left. From there, the hood should lift easily; prop it open with a hood prop and you’re ready to check on the oil, antifreeze, and more!
If you’re having trouble moving the safety latch under the hood, you may need to use a lubricant to get it unstuck. When you’re done working under the hood, close it and press down firmly to ensure the safety latch clicks back into place.
