Can I open a Honda Accord trunk from the inside? I’m trying to unlock and open my trunk using my keys and the lever, but it’s not working. How can I get into my trunk?

To open the Honda Accord trunk from the inside of the vehicle, you can either use the trunk release button, check the glove compartment, use your keyfob, or use the emergency trunk option.
The process may vary slightly between different model years. Try the options below, or look for a digital version of your owner’s manual for instructions.
To find the trunk release button
  • To start, look in the driver’s side storage area on the left side of the steering wheel near the driver’s seat footwell. You should see a trunk release button labeled with a car and an open trunk.
  • When you press this button, your trunk should open.
To check the glove compartment:
  • Unlock the vehicle and enter from the driver’s side.
  • Open the glove compartment on the passenger’s side of the vehicle. *Locate the main trunk switch, which is on the left side. Make sure the nob is on the On option.
  • Pull on the outer handle latch again. You should be able to open your trunk. You may also try to unlock the trunk with the key fob. If the car remote does not work, it may be a sign you need to replace the fob battery.
To use the emergency trunk option:
  • Fold down the rear seat, crawl into the trunk, and use the emergency release handle. You may need a screwdriver to help remove the trunk access panel before you can reach into the trunk.
OR
  • Go to the backseat on the driver’s side.
  • Locate a small square deck lid in the backseat. It will be underneath the rear window.
  • Carefully insert your manual key into the small opening of the decklid to remove it.
  • Once the decklid cover is off, you should see the emergency release lock. Using the same physical key, insert it into the emergency release lock. Rotate clockwise, and you should see the trunk release.
To use the keyfob (if applicable): You can also use the trunk release button on your key fob from inside your car. Your key fob should have a button on the bottom right side with a picture of a car with an open trunk. If you press and hold down that button while pointing the key fob towards the trunk, the back should pop open!
Your trunk may also have an emergency keyhole in case you have electrical problems. Simply remove the metal key from your key fob and use it to pry up the plastic cover on the left side of your trunk. Under the cover, you should find a keyhole. Use your key to open the trunk manually.
If you are still experiencing difficulty, your car might have an electric issue. Make an appointment to let a mechanic or a Honda service technician assess your vehicle.
