How do I open the gas tank on a Nissan Xterra?
I just got my first Nissan, a used Xterra. So far I really like it, but I can’t find the gas tank release! How can I open the gas tank on my Nissan Xterra?

This is an important piece of info! To open the gas tank on a Nissan Xterra, use the handle on the fuel door and open it manually to access the gas cap.
After you loosen the gas cap, you can place it in the holder on the inside of the fuel door while you fill up. Once you’re finished, make sure you tighten the gas cap until it clicks once, then firmly shut the fuel door.
It’s important that both the gas cap and fuel door are always closed properly. When the gas cap is loose, dirt particles can enter your Xterra’s gas tank while also letting gas vapors out.
The grime that gets into your gas tank can damage the fuel injectors—which are not cheap to fix. Fuel vapors escaping into the environment can cause the check engine light to turn on.
