How do I open the gas tank on a Hyundai Santa Fe?

I recently purchased a used Hyundai Santa Fe. While it’s been great for the first week or so, I have a huge issue—I have no idea how to open the gas tank to refuel! What am I missing?

Opening the gas tank on a Hyundai Santa Fe varies depending on the model year, so there’s no single answer to your question. We’ve put together a list to help you out just in case you’re
running on empty
:
  • 2005 to 2012: Pull up on the fuel filler door lever located on the driver’s side floorboard. Marked with a gas pump icon, this attaches to the fuel filler door and pops it open.
  • 2013 to 2018:
    Santa Fe models
     from these years have a button on the driver’s side door to open the gas tank. It’s located just below the door lock controls and above the map cubby.
  • 2019 to present: From 2019 on, the Santa Fe no longer has a button or lever inside the cabin. To open the gas tank, make sure the doors are unlocked and press the right-hand side of the fuel filler door.
