How do I open the gas tank on a 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe?
I’m borrowing my dad’s Santa Fe, as I’m building a backyard deck and I need a vehicle big enough to haul all the lumber back to my place to get the job finished. I’d like to be a good son and return the Santa Fe to my dad with a full tank of gas, but I can’t figure out how to open the fuel tank door. How do I open the gas tank on a 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe?

We believe in the maxim it’s the thought that counts, but you’ll want to return the Santa Fe with a full tank—just pull the gas tank door release, located on the floor between the driver’s seat and the driver’s side door on a 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe, to open the gas tank door panel.
Just follow these steps and you’ll be able to return that Santa Fe to your pop with a fuel tank full of gas!
- Turn the engine off and make sure all doors are unlocked
- Reach down to the floor between the driver’s seat and the driver’s side door
- Pull the gas tank door release
- Exit the car and head to the rear of the SUV where the gas tank is—the door panel will be open!
