My vehicle battery is dead and my jumper cables are in the trunk. How do I open the trunk of a 2019 Civic?

Oh, no—I’m sorry to hear you are in a tricky situation! If your
car’s dead
, you can open a Honda Civic trunk using the emergency trunk access. Here’s how.
  1. Separate the physical key from the
    key fob
. Locate the tiny plastic switch on the back of your car remote. Slide the switch to release the physical key from the fob casing.
  2. Manually unlock the driver’s side door with the physical key. From the inside, unlock the rear door.
  3. Get in the backseat on the driver’s side. Near the headrest of this seat is a compartment with a plastic cover. Pop off the cover.
  4. In the compartment, you may find a key slot or pull strap depending on the model of your vehicle.
  5. Pull the handle to release the trunk if it’s a pull strap. Insert your key and turn it clockwise to release the trunk if it’s a key slot.
Now you can grab your jumper cables and (hopefully) charge your battery enough to get back on the road! If your car still won’t start, you may have a more serious issue on your hands. Tow your vehicle to a mechanic to diagnose the problem.
