The last time I went to fill up my Scion, I couldn’t get the gas tank door to open! A gas station attendant helped me, but I know this is going to be a problem the next time I fill up. How do I open a broken gas tank on a 2006 Scion?

- Insert a bike lever tool or a stiff offset spatula into the corner of the fuel door.
- Pull up on the fuel release switch (usually located on the floor of the driver’s side).
- Swing the fuel door open.
- Insert a replacement fuel door spring.
- Close the door and test it by pulling up on the fuel release switch.
You can buy a replacement fuel door spring online from the
Toyota parts website
or at your local auto parts shop. If you don’t feel like spending $7 plus shipping, a tiny binder clip works, too!If you find that your Scion’s
gas cap won’t come off
or it’s too loose, it might be time to buy a replacement. Fortunately, it’s an easy car repair
! Use extra force to unscrew a stuck cap or just unscrew the loose one. Then, use a trim tool to pop the safety strap off of the fuel door. Screw the new cap in place and push the end of the safety strap onto the fuel door. That’s it!View full answer
