How do I make a car insurance claim when I'm not at fault?

A few days ago, a drunk driver slammed into the passenger side of my car. Everyone's okay, but one side of my car is completely crushed. I was not at fault here, but I've never had to file a claim before—I don't know what to do. How do I make a car insurance claim when I'm not at fault?

I am so sorry that happened.
As long as you have
collision coverage
, you should still be able to file a claim when you’re not at fault. If you have a deductible, you will have to pay that first, but your insurance should cover the rest—and you may be able to get your money back if your carrier is able to settle with the other driver’s insurance company.
For now, just focus on getting yourself back together. Accidents can really shake people up—so let your insurance company do the legwork while you work on getting to a place of recovery.
Working with your insurance company shouldn’t add more stress to your life after an accident. If you need a new provider, consider switching with
