How do I know if my employees have car insurance?

I have a fleet of company cars for my employees. I'm looking to expand my business, but I need to make sure my drivers are insured—I don't want my employees (or myself!) to get in trouble for driving while uninsured. How can I find out whether or not my employees are insured?

“Good on you for wanting to double-check the insurance info! The most direct way to find out if your employee has car insurance is to ask them for their
declarations page
. This document will outline the amount of coverage they have, as well as list their name and policy number.
If this isn’t an option for any reason, you can also request the information from the DMV. To get this information from the DMV, you’ll need to call and provide your reasons for wanting the information. If you say you’re an employer, getting the
car insurance
information shouldn’t be a problem.
As a business owner with a commercial fleet, you may also want to consider supplemental coverage for your employees, especially if any of your employees may have financial difficulty getting the type of coverage that you’d prefer. One of the easiest ways to get quotes on supplemental coverage is by using the
Jerry
app—we’ll get you customized quotes from top insurers so you can choose the plan that works best for your budget!
Good luck with getting all your employees insured, and with your business as a whole!”
