How do I keep my car battery from draining?

How can I keep my car battery from draining? My battery isn’t the greatest. Last winter, my car died quite a few times. I’d like to stop that from happening this year!

A dead car battery is one of the worst things to happen to a driver, especially since it’s almost always unexpected. Even so, there are some ways you can prevent your car battery from draining:
  • If you’re parking in a secure place, turn off the security system.
  • Drive at least 30 minutes per week.
  • Double-check that your lights are off before exiting.
  • Disconnect the negative terminal of your battery.
  • Use a battery maintainer to keep your battery charged when not in use.
  • Since you’ve been having problems with your battery for a while, it might be worth getting a new battery or having someone test your battery. If your battery is maintaining its charge, it’s likely another issue unrelated to your battery.
If your battery has died multiple times, it might be worth investing in roadside assistance. Try a roadside assistance membership with Jerry! Jerry’s roadside assistance membership protects you with their nationwide network of 55,000+ service providers for as low as $4.16 per month, so you’ll never have to worry about being stranded with a dead battery.
