How do I insure a company car?
I'm self-employed, and I have a vehicle I use specifically for business. I've been a little overwhelmed with setting everything up, and I want to make sure I do everything by the book. Is there any type of insurance I need to get since this is technically a company car? And how do I insure a company car for my own business?

“Congratulations on starting your own business—and that’s a great question! To insure a company car, you have two options:
- Commercial car insurance. If you plan to use your car every day, or if it’s a larger vehicle used to transport goods, this is most likely the best option! (To put it into context: this is the type of coverage that large trucks and transport vehicles usually have.)
- Personal business car insurance. If transportation isn’t the main focus of your business, or if you won’t use the car as frequently, this is probably the best option for you.
One or both of these
car insurance
policies should cover you, but you’ll need to ask the insurance company which policy is the correct legal choice. Which insurance you choose is almost entirely dependent on the nature of your business and how often you use the car.Car insurance policies are also tax-deductible, so make sure to keep all of your receipts.
