There are a myriad of reasons your steering may be stiff, and luckily, a few of them can be fixed at home! Try these tips before running to a mechanic.
First, your tire pressure could be off, which can impact your ability to steer smoothly. To fix this, use a tire gauge to check the PSI on your tires, then get your tires to the recommended PSI by either adding or getting rid of air.
It also may be an issue with your power steering fluid, which will cause the steering to be stiff if it’s too low. The power steering fluid is located under your hood, near the engine. Check the levels—the fluid should be just above the refill mark. Refilling the fluid could fix the problem.
In case neither of these work, it could be an issue with your alignment, tire rotation, or accessory belt. In these instances, it’s best to take your car to a professional mechanic.
If the damage was caused by an accident or other collision, you will want good
