How do I get swirls out of black paint?

I have a black car, and today I noticed that there were some swirls in the paint on the hood. I’m not sure if they’ve always been there or if they’re recent, but I’d like to get rid of them if possible. How do I get swirls out of black paint?

Good question! How to remove swirls from black paint largely depends on how deep the swirls are. If they are fairly shallow, you may be able to remove them just by polishing the area with decent car polish.
If that doesn’t work, you’ll need to employ a scratch remover for black cars to get rid of them. This will remove the clear coat in which the swirls are set until the swirls are no longer visible. You can then apply a fresh layer of clear coat over top of the area, and your paint job will be good as new.
In the unfortunate event that the swirls are in the paint itself—which definitely means they’ve always been there—you’ll have to do some touch-up work and paint over them with black paint, followed by a clear coat and finishing off by buffing.
Hopefully, this helps!
