How do I get my car insurance history?
Where can I access my car insurance history? I am switching to a new insurance company. As part of the switch, they are asking about my prior insurance history for a discount.

“If you’re switching to a new insurance company and need to find your
car insurance
history, you have a few options.Most insurance companies will want to make sure you’ve been insured for at least six months without any
lapses in coverage
to receive a prior insurance discount.If you have access, you can provide your new insurance company with your current car insurance policy information. Typically, insurance companies want to see proof of insurance or your
policy declaration page
, which details your coverage and policy term. If you had more than one insurance company in the past six months, you’ll need policy documents from both companies.
Should you be unable to find any information on your own, you’ll either need to call the insurance company directly or search your email. You may be able to find old policy documents in your inbox.
Finally, most car insurance companies can verify insurance through a CLUE report. If you let your agent know that you are insured but can’t find the documents right away, they will likely pull the report to verify your coverage. However, if the report doesn’t show prior insurance history and you can’t provide proof, you’d lose out on the discount.
