“So happy to hear you have both a good credit score and a clean driving record—you’re off to a great start in lowering your insurance premium.
From there, one of the best ways to keep your car insurance costs down is to shop around. Get quotes from multiple providers—either online or by calling companies directly. At the very least, get three quotes to compare.
Car insurance premiums are largely based on:
  • Your age
  • Zip code
  • Driving history
  • Type of coverage you have
However, each company rates these factors differently, so prices vary among providers. This is why shopping around is key.
If you’d rather leave the hard work of gathering quotes to someone else, use
Jerry
. The Jerry app can collect quotes from up to 50 top insurance companies in seconds and help cancel your old policy once you’ve picked a new one.
Other ways to lower your insurance premium include:
  • Agreeing to a higher deductible: A higher deductible can lower your insurance premium significantly! The deductible is the amount of money you will pay out of pocket before your insurance policy covers the remaining expenses after an accident. So if you agree to a higher deductible, you should have that money in a savings account in case the unthinkable happens.
  • Dropping unnecessary coverages: If you happen to own an older vehicle, consider dropping
    collision and/or comprehensive coverage
. Mathematically, it is not worth purchasing these types of coverage if the current value of your car is less than 10 times your premium.
  • Asking about discounts: And like every good shopper knows, you should seek out discounts! Your insurer may offer discounts for bundling your
    auto and home insurance
or insuring more than one vehicle, among other things. Ask your provider or search its website for further details.”
