How do I get insurance without a car?

Can I purchase an insurance policy if I don't have a car? I'm going to be purchasing one soon and want to budget.

Yes, you can
get car insurance before buying a car
! To find insurance rates, you will need to provide some basic information to car insurance companies, like:
  • Your name
  • Date of birth
  • Driver’s license number
  • Type of coverage you need
  • Social Security number
If you already know the vehicle you’re purchasing, you’ll also want to provide companies with the vehicle’s VIN or vehicle identification number. Although you can still request car insurance quotes without a VIN, your rates will be less accurate and subject to change. Providing insurance companies with at least two VINs of vehicles you’re considering can also give you a better idea of what you’ll need to budget.
Once you have all the information you need, you can begin shopping around. You can do this online or with an insurance representative over the phone—though you may find
cheaper car insurance quotes online
