What is the best way to get insurance to pay for a car accident? I got into a bad accident recently and there was a lot of damage. I think my car is going to be really expensive to repair and am hoping my insurance is going to help me out.

, you should file a claim as soon as possible.But your health is most important, so there’s nothing wrong with taking a few days to recover.
Once you’re feeling up to it, follow these steps:
- File a police report (if you haven’t already). Hopefully, someone called the cops and you spoke with an officer at the scene of the accident. If you didn’t, you should file a report with your local police station ASAP—in fact, some states require it. Plus, your insurer will want to reference this document.
- File a claimwith your insurance provider. When you contact your insurer, you should be prepared to tell them details about the accident—like where and when it occurred, who was driving, and the other driver’s name and insurance details.
- Schedule a time when the claim’s adjuster can assess the damage. Your insurer will be in contact with you to set this up. The adjuster will look at your car’s damage and may also require that the car be inspected at an auto shop.
- Accept or reject the payout offer. Once your provider has gathered enough information, they will reach out with an offer. If you feel the price is too low, you may want tocontact a lawyerto discuss your options.
