How do I get free car upgrades in GTA 5 online?

I just started to play GTA 5 online. My buddy told me that I can get free car upgrades, but he didn’t tell me how to do it. What can I do to get these free upgrades in GTA 5 online?

Your friend is right! Getting a few free upgrades can give you a bit of customization and make the game a little more to your liking. To get free car upgrades in GTA 5 online, just follow these steps:
  1. Go to the Auto Shop.
  2. Purchase one of the cars that roll into the shop.
  3. Go to the customization menu. You should see that all the upgrades are free, so upgrade the car to your liking.
  4. Back out of the menu, then purchase the now-customized car again.
  5. Send it off to the garage of your choosing.
  6. Go to the garage you sent it to, and you should have a car full of the upgrades you chose.
