Don’t worry, the reason you haven’t heard of this before is that getting a car title notarized isn’t a step that is required when you sell a car in CA! However, a few states require the title to be notarized and NB is one of them.
A notary is a person that is authorized to perform certain legal formalities. When a person has a car title notarized, the notary ensures the signer is who they say they are, which provides an extra layer of legal protection.
You can find notaries anywhere, and for something like this, the cost will only be a few dollars. Here are a few locations:
Local government buildings
Do you have a copy of your title to get it notarized? If not, you can download it from dmv.nebraska.gov or make your own. Here is the information the title form must contain:
Buyer and seller’s legal name
Byerly and seller’s address
Buyer and seller’s phone number
Buyer and seller’s signatures
Signature of a Notary Public as a witness
You can fill out everything except the signatures before you get to the notary and all signers must complete the form in blue or black ink.
Once the title is signed, return your plates to the Nebraska DMV and get a partial refund on your registration.
The last step would be to remove your vehicle from your car insurance policy
