Keeping track of your car title can be tricky—especially since you rarely need it! Luckily, you can get a
duplicate title
in New York by following these steps:
  • Fill out an Application for Duplicate Certificate of Title.
  • Gather legal identification and proof of residency.
  • Pay the $20 processing fee.
If you’d like to pay in person, you can bring your documentation and fee to the DMV and wait in line. Alternatively, you can submit your papers online at the New York DMV website. Either way, you should receive your new title in the mail about three days after filing your request.
