How do I fix tubular tires?

I am an avid biker and have long preferred to ride with tubular tires. However, my back tire is flat and won’t keep the air in. I think there’s a puncture in my tire. How do I fix my bike’s tubular tires?

Good call figuring this out—it’s important to keep your bike’s tires in tip-top shape. Repairing a popped tubular tire just takes the right gear and a little patience.
First, you’ll need to identify where the puncture is. If you can’t see it, you’ll want to inflate your tire and listen for the leak. If this doesn’t work, you can submerge the tire in water and watch for air bubbles.
Once you’ve found the puncture, you need to:
  • Remove the base tape at the location of the puncture.
  • Cut the stitching threads and pull the tire open.
  • Lift the tube and find the leak.
  • Patch the leak with glue.
  • Get the tube back in place, then sew the tire shut.
Following these steps should get your bike as good as new!
