How do I fix torn or cracked rubber around my car window?

I noticed that the rubber trim around my car windows is starting to crack and tear. I want to keep my car in good condition and I'm up for a little DIY, so is there any way I can repair it?

“Good on you for being up for some repair! To fix the rubber trim on your car, just follow these simple steps:
  • Use a coarse grit sandpaper to remove loose rubber.
  • Use 400 grit sandpaper to smooth it even further.
  • Wipe down the trim with rubbing alcohol.
  • Tape off the area next to the rubber trim.
  • Spray a rubber aerosol coating on the trim.
  • Wait about an hour and apply a second coating.
  • Remove the tape before the coating dries, as this will give a sleeker, more defined edge.
By repairing the trim, you can make your car look like new and even improve the car’s
retail value
.
If the rubber trim is beyond repair, you may want to see if you’re covered by your warranty or
comprehensive insurance
