Since your SRS, or Secondary Restraint System, is designed to control the airbags, it’s an important safety feature. Before you reset the SRS light yourself, have a mechanic assess your vehicle and check with them if there are any recalls on your car to ensure there are no existing issues.
If you’ve confirmed there aren’t any other problems, here’s how to reset an SRS light on a 2002 Honda Accord
: Under the steering wheel is the fuse box. Remove the panel to access the fuse box.
You should see different wires and connectors exposed after removing the panel. Locate the Memory Erase Signal (MES) connector, which is generally a green or yellow two-hole hold plug. Disconnect the plug.
Take a metal paper clip and untwist it to form a U shape. Insert the paper clip into the two-hole plug. This action will short circuit the MES connector.
Leaving the paper clip in the two-hole plug, insert your car keys into the ignition to turn on the vehicle. Do not start the car. The SRS light will light up and turn off. Disconnect the paper clip from the two-hole plug.
After removing the paper clip, the SRS light will illuminate again. Insert the paper clip one more time into the two-hole plug to turn off the SRS light. Once the light is off, take out the paper clip.
The SRS light will flash two times, which means the reset process for the SRS system and light is complete. That said, if your light comes back on after resetting the system, you’ll want to visit a mechanic as soon as possible.
Since you are taking time to fix your SRS light, consider taking some time to review your auto policy and make sure you are paying the best prices for your coverage. Jerry
