Oof, peeling paint! You’re very smart to deal with this issue sooner rather than later.
To fix peeling paint on a plastic bumper, you should try
stripping
, sanding, priming, and
repainting
it.
First, let’s understand the cause. A nick or
scratch
almost always leads to peeling paint, although prolonged UV exposure can also trigger peeling. The root of the problem is a weak bond between the plastic bumper and the paint.
Now, there are two possible solutions. You can either do a spot treatment or repaint the entire bumper.
You will get the best results if you repaint the entire bumper. It’s nearly impossible to seamlessly blend new paint into old paint, even for a skilled painter. Either way, be careful to remove all dirt and debris first to allow the new paint to bond directly with the plastic.
Send your vehicle to a repair shop—this is not a backyard DIY project! Proper ventilation is essential while painting. Your bumper must be wet sanded, then primed, then sanded again and repainted.
